Microsoft previously added a feature to Bing autosuggest that displayed matching people on the right side along with a thumbnail. This could be used, for example, to choose between Michelle Williams the actress or the singer from Destiny’s Child.
Microsoft has now expanded Bing autosuggest to include brands, movies, albums, places, software, sport teams, animal species and more. For example, a search for Pitbull will display thumbnails of the artist and the dog breed.
Clicking one of these allows Bing to provide more relevant search results. Interested in learning more? See the Bing blog here.
After using its data to successfully predict four out of six Oscar winners, Google has figured out how to predict the success of movies before they are released with between 90 and 92 percent accuracy. They do this by checking how often the movie’s trailer is searched for on Google and YouTube during the month before its release.
But data from immediately before a movie’s release is also important. For example, if a movie receives 250,000 more searches than another movie opening the same weekend, the first movie should earn about $4.3 million more.
